  4.      I don't know if you read the changes file in the previous version,
  5.      so I will summarize it.  I sold my home in Santa Barbara, and moved
  6.      to a small town in Northern California to concentrate on writing
  7.      shareware full time.  Well (you may ask), how's it going.
  8.  
  9.      Since my program was reviewed on page 50 in the Nov. 13, 1990 issue
  10.      of PC Magazine, registrations have increased significantly.
  11.      Appearantly a lot of people read (and pay attention to) PC
  12.      Magazine.  Site registrations have really increased, and I now have
  13.      some Fortune 500 customers.  Banks, however, make up the bulk of
  14.      the Site Licensees.

  16.      Even with the increase, I still need an outside income, so I
  17.      continue to accept small consulting jobs.  I have a great hope that
  18.      this may be the last year I have to do so.

  20.      This is not quite the 2.0 release that I had planned.  I had
  21.      planned to start using a new library release to enhance AutoCon.
  22.      The new library had a better editor, and a better menu system.  A
  23.      couple of weeks into the conversion, I realized that the price of
  24.      the new library system was going to be a tremendous increase in the
  25.      size of AutoCon.  AUTOCON.EXE was going to grow to about 400K.  I
  26.      decided that this was not acceptable, so I have a lot more time
  27.      invested in this release than I planned.  The size (however) only
  28.      increased about 20K.  I have completely rewritten the front screen
  29.      code, and added several enhancements to the editor.  The cost is
  30.      that this release is running about a month later than I planned.

  32.      The 2.1 release of AutoCon will have a lot more editor
  33.      enhancements.  I'm planning pull down menus (similar to the front
  34.      screen), and a split screen capability.  I also intend to allow
  35.      Search/Replace operations to go automatically through all
  36.      configurations.  I will also be able to use the screen size in
  37.      effect when AutoCon is started, instead of switching everything to
  38.      the 80X25 mode.

  40.      The extra phone line for my BBS was just installed, and I will get
  41.      it operational this month.  The official start date is March 1,
  42.      1991, but it may be online sooner.  The number is (916) 623 4455,
  43.      ane it will be in operation 24 hours a day.  I'm hoping to have it
  44.      set up to receive FAXes as well, but I'll have to see how well that
  45.      works out.

  47.      The main function of the BBS will be AutoCon support.  If things
  48.      work out well, it may grow into a full multi-line BBS.  As a
  49.      consequence there will be several megabytes of downloadable files
  50.      on it, always including the latest shareware release of AutoCon.
  51.      I will also set up a section for a group of Beta testers, so let me
  52.      know if you are interested in becomming one.  I see several
  53.      enhancements in AutoCons future, as well as a few other programs
  54.      that I have in mind.

  56.      This will be my first BBS, so I'm sure there will be some growing
  57.      pains, so bear with me.

  59.      I love the place I've moved to (and for those of you who asked, yes
  60.      the construction is finished, but I found that I now have to
  61.      re-roof the rest of the house <sigh..>).  I thank you very much for
  62.      the support you have given to AUTOCON, and for giving me the
  63.      incentive to change careers.
